plant care is self care

It's cold and cloudy outside today, but here's a recent sunny picture of my 'conservatory'! I've moved my outside potted plants in for the winter to join the ones that bask in the 'solarium' all year round. This room is supposed to be a formal living room, but we really don't need one of those. The windows face southwest. 🌱 Since I took the first photo, I added my #pricklypearcactus as well. It might overwinter OK outside in its pot, but I'll enjoy it more if it's here for me to see every day. There are two #cacti in the pot. Each started from a single small lobe that had fallen off a large plant one of my neighbors has growing by the sidewalk. All the #succulents other than the prickly pear came from one tiny hanging basket my husband bought me a couple years ago. They are thriving. I just recently transplanted them from a large pot where they were together into their own pots. 🌱 Most of the other plants started off in container gardens we received as condolence gifts when Rader died. The #croton in the colorful pot was down to two leaves for a very long time, and then finally started to grow again when I moved it into this room. The other variegated plant is a #maranta, or #prayerplant. I have an #elephantear in a pot. My hope was that it would be a giant houseplant. The pot may be too small for that. The bulbs I planted outside grew to colossal size. 🌱 Then there are my four #phalaenopsis #orchids. The two with large leaves rebloomed this year. The one at the top left has never rebloomed, but it did make the baby #keiki on the bottom right. With them on the shelf are (top left) my #petrifiedwood from our Grand Canyon spring break trip, (top right) a slab of #labradorite, my favorite, and (bottom right) a small piece of purple and green #fluorite. ❤️ 💙 💛 #ifyougiveagirlahouseplant #plantsarefriends #plantcareselfcare #lovemelovemyplants #plantparenthood #houseplants #hangingplants #rockcollection
