Today, the Saturday before the American Thanksgiving holiday, is International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day. In the past, in-person events have been held by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and its local chapters to mark the day and remember those loved ones we have lost. For 2020, of course, things have gone virtual.
I know many of you who follow the Rader Ward Foundation have not personally lost someone to suicide. Maybe you don't even know anyone else's suicide loss story besides mine. But unfortunately at some point, someone close to you — or maybe even you — will be caught in the fallout of suicide loss. And then you're going to want to know where to turn for resources.
I'm always here and will help in any way I can, and letting people know about our social media helps us reach more folks with lifesaving information.
AFSP, though, they're the ones you really want when you need them. Their Survivor Day page offers a wealth of content to offer support and comfort to anyone affected by suicide. Whether you've suffered your own loss or you want to be prepared to help someone who has, please take some time today to explore what's there: loss survivor stories, a library of short documentaries filmed for past Survivor Days, the Healing Conversations peer program, how to talk to a suicide loss survivor, book recommendations, and SO much more.
